What Drives Our Work

We began this practice because we believed that careful, methodical watch service should be accessible in Cyprus. Not rushed work that treats timepieces as disposable, and not so expensive that only collectors could afford proper care. Something in between—competent service performed with appropriate attention and priced fairly.

Three values guide how we approach the work: respect for the craft of watchmaking, honesty about what we can and cannot do, and commitment to treating each watch as if it were our own. These aren't marketing statements. They're the principles we try to uphold when making decisions about procedures, timeframes, and how we communicate with clients.

The work itself is straightforward—disassemble, clean, lubricate, reassemble, adjust. What varies is how carefully each step is performed and whether the watchmaker takes time to understand the specific movement rather than applying a universal procedure. We try to take that time.

Our Fundamental Belief

We believe that a watch—regardless of its monetary value—deserves to be serviced properly if someone has decided it's worth servicing. The technical procedures should be performed methodically, with appropriate tools and adequate time. The owner should understand what was done and why.

This belief shapes everything from how we schedule appointments to how we document our work. It's not complicated or particularly innovative. It's simply a commitment to doing the work as it should be done rather than as quickly as possible.

Vision for Practice

We hope to maintain a small practice where quality can be prioritized over volume, where watches are serviced by the person you spoke with initially, and where the focus remains on technical competence rather than business growth. Not everyone needs to expand. Some things work better when they stay small.

Approach to Service

Each watch receives individual attention based on its specific calibre, condition, and service history. We don't use universal procedures applied to every timepiece. The approach is adapted to what the watch needs, informed by technical literature and practical experience with similar movements.

Proper watch service cannot be rushed. Cleaning must be thorough. Lubrication requires precision. Timing adjustment needs observation over days, not hours. We believe in allocating sufficient time for each watch rather than imposing artificial deadlines that compromise the work.

Horological techniques evolve and individual experience accumulates through practice. We maintain active engagement with technical literature, discussions with other watchmakers, and reflection on our own work. Competence requires continued learning, not just initial training.

Honesty Matters

We tell clients what we observe, what we can do, and what limitations exist. If a repair isn't economically sensible, we say so. If we discover something unexpected during service, we explain it. Honesty about capabilities and conditions builds trust more than optimistic promises.

Value Beyond Price

A watch's worth is determined by what it means to its owner, not its market value. A modestly priced timepiece with sentimental significance deserves the same careful attention as an expensive collector's piece. We don't tier our service quality based on brand names.

Documentation Serves Purpose

Written notes about each service help the owner understand their watch's condition and provide reference for future work. Documentation isn't bureaucracy—it's practical information that helps make informed decisions about maintenance and reveals patterns over multiple service cycles.

Small is Sustainable

Maintaining a small practice allows focus on quality rather than volume. We're not interested in expanding to multiple locations or maximizing throughput. The current scale lets us know each watch's history and maintain consistent standards. Growth isn't always improvement.

Scheduling and Timeframes

Because we believe quality requires adequate time, we schedule appointments with realistic intervals between them. Service timeframes are estimated based on what the work requires, not what might be most convenient. If a watch needs a week, we say a week—not three days with the work rushed to meet an arbitrary deadline.

Service Procedures

Each calibre has specific requirements for disassembly sequence, cleaning approach, and lubrication points. We consult technical documentation for movements we're less familiar with rather than applying generic procedures. This takes additional time but results in service appropriate to the specific watch.

Client Communication

Transparency means explaining not just what was done but why it was necessary and what alternatives existed. If we encounter unexpected wear or corrosion, we photograph it and discuss the implications. Clients are partners in deciding what work makes sense for their particular situation.

Pricing Structure

Prices reflect the time and expertise required, not the watch's brand or market value. A service on a Seiko automatic costs the same as a service on a comparable Swiss movement—both receive identical care and attention. The work determines the price, not the name on the dial.

Respect for Individual Needs

Watch owners have different priorities, budgets, and relationships with their timepieces. Some value originality and prefer minimal intervention. Others want their watch restored to like-new appearance. Some need the watch back quickly for practical reasons. Others are willing to wait for thorough work.

This means we use modern ultrasonic cleaning equipment because it demonstrably outperforms traditional methods for certain components. But we still perform many operations by hand because precision matters more than speed. Technology serves the work; it doesn't replace judgment and skill.

Evolution of our practice comes through experience with different calibres, conversations with other watchmakers, and careful observation of which approaches yield the most consistent results. Change happens incrementally, driven by evidence rather than trends.
